August 2024

PhD Student Nahid Samimimotlagh won the Best Poster Award - Department of Economics Research Day 2024 for her poster "Heterogeneity in Price Elasticities of Urban Water Demand: The Case for Albuquerque, New Mexico." Congratulations, Nahid!!!

Associate Professor Jingjing Wang was awarded a $6 million multi-institution NSF grant that will investigate indoor farming, also known as controlled environment agriculture, as a possible solution to the problems climate change poses for agriculture. Jingjing is the primary investigator of the UNM-led project, titled “Harnessing Controlled Environment Agriculture to Secure Sustainability and Economic Growth.” Read the UNM news release here.  Congratulations!

Celeste is funded by the inaugural Ryan and Brandi Mummert Research Fellowship in Economics to work on an urban water management project that is partially funded by a State of New Mexico Legislative Research Grant. Associate Professor Jingjing Wang joined the UNM Water Resources Program as Associate Director. Director of the Water Resources Program Dr. Becky Bixby announced: "Dr. Wang comes to the program with a wealth of experience in environmental and natural resource economics focused on policy research centered on water resources management, nutrient pollution, and clean energy. Dr. Wang is no stranger to the Water Resources Program and has served on a number of Water Resource graduate student committees and co-taught WR 572 Models class. She is a member of the leadership team for the university-wide Sustainable Water Grand Challenge and received the UNM New Teacher of the Year Award in 2021-2022. She is also a member of the Technical Customer Advisory Committee for the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority."

Associate Professor Jingjing Wang, as one of the FRESSH inaugural cohort, has successfully completed UNM’s Fostering Research Expansion in the Social Sciences and Humanities (FRESSH) pilot program after nine months of specialized training, mentorship and workshops. Jingjing is leading an NSF EPSCoR RII Track-2 proposal that is due in January 2023. Congratulations!

PhD Student Oluwatosin (Tosin) Olofinsao, working under the supervision of Associate Professor Jingjing Wang, was awarded a New Mexico Water Resources Research Institute (NM WRRI) 2022-2023 Student Water Research Grant for a project on wastewater reuse in dryland. Tosin was one of the six students competitively selected from across the state of New Mexico to conduct water research with this newly awarded funding. Congratulations!

April 2021

Undergraduate Students Matthew Goldman and Katrina Dutt, working under the direction of Assistant Professor Jingjing Wang, were prize winners for their proposal "Impact of a Green Default Nudge on Resource Conservation: A Case Study of UNM Printing" at the inaugural UNM Team Research Symposium held April 20–22, 2021. Their team was one of the three finalists in Student Team Research Concept Competition and won a $200 prize. The symposium, presented by the UNM Interdisciplinary Science Cooperative and UNM Grand Challenges, featured 163 attendees from around the world, 50 presenters from around the country, and 19 sessions. The mission of the event was to bring faculty and students across campus together to exchange ideas and promote more productive research teams. Congratulations!

March 2021
